Molly Evans Senior Vice President, Advertising Sales Ottaway Local Media Group |
Molly joined the company as advertising director for the Cape Cod Times in January 1998, and after seven years of successful leadership and innovation on both the print and on-line sides, was named general manager of the Santa Cruz Sentinel in late 2004. She became publisher of the Sentinel in January 2006, and the following year returned East to become advertising director for Ottaway's Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y. She was promoted to her current position in 2008. Prior to her career at Ottaway, Evans held advertising management positions with several other companies. These include classified advertising manager at the Journal Inquirer (Conn.), the Bakersfield Californian, and the Tennessean in Nashville. Between the Journal Inquirer and Bakersfield she gained retail and national experience at The Hartford Courant (Conn.). She was also advertising director at Central Maine Newspapers, and marketing director at The Daily Item in Lynn, Mass., with responsibility for advertising and circulation. Evans' career had been defined by the success she has had implementing improvements that increased revenue and operational efficiencies. Her strengths are leadership and finding creative solutions to client needs. An example of that creativity early in her career was as a junior account executive in recruitment in Hartford. Through interviewing her clients and listening to their needs, she "invented" the idea of a newspaper-sponsored job fair. The Courant's "Job Fair 88" was a huge success. The rest of the newspaper industry followed suit. Born in upstate NY, she considers the Hartford area home. Evans has a bachelor's degree in English from Eastern Connecticut State University. She and her husband of 21 years, Tom, have a son, Alex, 15. | |
